This year, High School Nation came to our Granite Hills High School, and everyone had a blast! There was live music, giveaways, and different areas where we could try out instruments or tye dye shirts, things like that. I personally had a lot of fun, and it seemed like the rest of the school did too!

I actually had the great opportunity to be able to go backstage and interview all of the artists who performed that day! It was so cool being able to talk to them one-on-one; they were all super cool and were all very open to answering all of my questions.

The first group I interviewed was the rock band. They were very friendly and all had very outgoing personalities. They told me they first met each other in a nightclub, and everything had skyrocketed from there. They like the more 70’s vibe to their music, as well as with their style. They have a new upcoming album called ‘Boom Boom Room’ and the name inspiration was from the nightclub they originally met in, The Boom Boom Room, in San Francisco.

The next artists I interviewed was the pop group, Far Young. They were a little bit more on the shy side, but still answered all of my questions and were very nice; they even took pictures with me and the other interviewers! They met from all over the world. Two of the three members are from the UK, and the other member was from Tennessee, and he was even on American Idol a few years back. They get their music taste from big artists such as Justin Bieber, One Direction, and other similar pop artists. They told me they’ve worked with Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s music producers, and have big new things coming for their fans!

The next performer I interviewed was the DJ of the day. He was very tall, and had an awesome style. He said when he was around 14 he started to DJ for neighborhood parties just to earn a little bit more money, but then he eventually started to realize it was a real passion of his. He told me he doesn’t have a specific music genre he likes to mix; he loves all types of music and will DJ for anything. His most memorable moment was when actor Halle Berry came up to him at a house party and told him to play her favorite song at the moment, “Baby” by Justin Bieber. He was super funny and said he would love to come back to Granite!

The last artist I got to interview was Izzy Mink, a pop cover vocalist. She said she gets her style from pop artists such as Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. She’s been singing since she was young and it’s always been a big part of her life. She said she hopes to grow a bigger fan base as the year passes, and hopes to come out with her album too. She told me to include in this article that her family and parents have been a huge part of her musical career and have always supported her. She was a very sweet girl!

Singer and actor Drake Bell also performed, but I, unfortunately, didn’t have the chance to meet him because his line to meet with fans was too long! But he had an amazing performance, and from what I heard he was a really cool guy.

I hope High School Nation comes back soon, because I loved having them at Granite and I know everyone else did too.
