On February 15, 2016, the 58th Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. For those of you guys who don’t really know what the Grammys are, they are awards for musicians. Winning a Grammy is one of the greatest honors that can be received when you’re in the music business, and this year, many artists were quite honored. 83 awards were given in total, but unfortunately, I can’t go over go over all of them. However, I will try my best to go over all, of the best parts of the 58th Grammy Awards.
According to latimes.com, while there were many great artists who won awards, there was no questioning that the star of the show was none other than Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar walked away with a total of 7 Grammys which include Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and Best Music Video. In close second, Taylor Swift won two awards along with The Weekend, Ed Sheeran, and Mark Ronson. Taylor Swift won Album of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. The Weekend won Best R&B Performance, and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Ed Sheeran won Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. Mark Ronson won Record of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. There were many other artists who walked away with Grammy awards. Meghan Trainor, Skrillex and Diplo with Justin Bieber, Chris Stapleton, Hillary Lindsey, and many other popular artists walked away with awards. Overall, the night was a huge success.
One of the biggest highlights from the ceremony features none other than Kanye West. When Taylor Swift went on stage to receive her award for Album of the Year, she also made an oblique reference to Kanye West advising women everywhere to ignore those who would try to “take credit for your fame,” among other things. Afterwards, West told the world in a tweet that he “did not diss” the singer and that he has “never dissed her”. But he then launched into a into a rant about how he called her on the phone, had an hour-long conversation with her about the song “Famous”, and said she found it ‘funny’ and gave him her blessing. I was still quite confused about the whole situation, but it’s probably because I don’t really know that much about it.
Other than that, however, the Grammy’s was still a huge success. There were some amazing performances from Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Justin Bieber with Skrillex & Diplo, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, and so many others that had the crowd going crazy for the whole night. This year’s Grammy Awards was a huge success, and I can’t wait to see how next year’s is going to be like.
