Album Review: “That’s the Spirit!”

On September 11, famous British rock band, Bring Me The Horizon, released their newest album titled “That’s The Spirit.”  It is quite different from other BMTH albums because lead singer Oliver Sykes, got severe throat cancer and it left him unable to ”scream” during the more hardcore type of songs leaving them with a more slower type of album.

Some may say that Bring Me The Horizon has changed drastically due to Oli’s sickness, leaving fans unhappy with the outcome of this year’s album. Old time fans seemed to be more upset with this newer album because it is less metalcore and more post-hardcore. Newer fans seemed to like this album a lot more because of it being slower and haven’t heard the older albums, I asked freshman Jesse Alfaro about the album differences, “I like the new album but it isn’t as great as the older ones, my favorite old song is pray for plagues, it sounds like there is no words, just screaming, but I love it. My favorite song on this new album is True Friends, I like it because it has a lot of heart and meaning in it.”

It was rumored on Twitter that Oliver Sykes was leaving the band, I asked Jesse His thoughts on that, “It makes me sad because I don’t want Oli to leave, his band is one of my many favorites.”  Of course it was just a rumor, Oliver is continuing his career with Bring Me The Horizon. I also interviewed Freshman Jessena Cesena and asked her how it made her feel due to this awful rumor being nothing but a rumor, “I am so glad it was just a rumor. Oliver is amazing and I have grown to love what he has been doing with the band and I hope he continues his career for a long time.”

Bands come and go, but they will continue to live our hearts forever. I’m sure people are extremely relieved to know that Oliver Sykes is not leaving Bring Me The Horizon, and we are grateful that he is continuing his career. As of the first week of the album being sold, 44300 people have bought their album. Way to rock it, Bring Me The Horizon!
