Spin Offs: Good and Bad

Now we all remember the gang from “Full House”, but did you know there is now going to be a 13 episode spin off? Yes, this is can either be a big hit or a terrible failure, because when it comes to spin offs, it’s one or the other. “Fuller House” takes place with DJ recently widowed and a mother of two with another child on the way. This could be overwhelming, so her sister Stephanie and best friend Kimmy are going to move in with her to help raise the kids. The first episode will consist of a reunion episode with as many of the old characters as possible.
Spin off’s were originally made with the idea of giving fans closure of the show, to know that their favorite characters are doing fine. However some networks take advantage of this to make more money, and this leads to many of the terrible spin off’s. For example, “Joey”: the spinoff of “Friends” where Joey goes to Hollywood to live his life as an actor but ends up falling in love. Another terrible spin off is any of the spin offs from the “Jersey Shore”, because I’m pretty sure that show was enough.
Not all spin offs are bad, and sometimes they lead to really good television. Not many people realize that “The Simpsons” is a spin off of “The Tracey Ullman Show”. It started off just as little shorts that appeared on the show every once in a while. Another good spin off is “The Muppet Show” The characters first appeared on “Sesame Street”.
There have been spin offs where the quality is just based on a person’s opinion. Shows like “Legend of Korra” which came from “The Last Airbender”, “The Amanda Show” originated from “All That!”, ”All Grown Up” came from the beloved show “Rugrats”, “Teen Titan Go!” also came from “Teen Titans”, or even “The Penguins of Madagascar.” All of these have had mixed reviews. Share your opinion of spin off’s in the comment section below.
