For most high school students, we remember Disney Channel in a completely different way than kids  today. We remember shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Sonny With a Chance. Now that those shows are done and have been replaced by new shows, we often wonder what happened to the actors and actresses we once looked up to. Some have followed the same path as when they were younger. Some have continued their careers as adults. Others have turned completely around and can’t even be recognized. Here are some of those beloved actors and actresses that turned to the dark side of fame.

One of the most known for turning against everything she once loved was, you guessed it, Miley Cyrus. She started acting young and it wasn’t to hard to get discovered with her father being Billy Ray Cyrus, a well known and loved country singer. She did a few minor roles until she got the lead role in a Disney Channel series called Hannah Montana when she was only 11 years old. She continued with that series until she turned 18. Once she turned 18, she left Disney and started her own career, not taking anything she learned from Disney with her. One of the first signs that she was changing from the young, lively girl into an “adult” was her performance on MTV’s Video Music Awards. From then on it seemed as though she went down hill. Young girls look up to her. She dresses incredibly inappropriate for younger girls, which is a huge majority of her fan base, as well as “bullying” other stars. She continues to fall further and further down as the rest of the world watches her go from “the face of true talent and success” to “the girl you don’t allow your kids to listen to.”

Demi Lovato, from Sonny with a Chance, Camp Rock, and other Disney programs, was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder in 2010 when she had a public breakdown and punched a back-up dancer. She said, “Finding out I had a real emotional disorder helped me put together the pieces of the puzzle. I remember being on my tour bus thinking, My life is so awesome right now, but I’m so depressed. Then, a few days later, I’d be on top of the world. It was really confusing. When I got diagnosed, my life made more sense.” She admitted to self harming and abusing drugs and alcohol. She said she needed to do something physical, to match the way she was feeling inside. Since then she has gone to rehab and says that she is doing better.

Selena Gomez, in everything from Barney to the Muppets, has gone from a “teen sensation” to an “inappropriate role model” to young girls that used to look up to her. She has since been one of the stars in a R-Rated movie called Spring Breakers, along with other former Disney stars like Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical. Selena’s relationship with Justin Bieber is also well-known and she is discredited for some of the rumors that went around about her after the breakup.

These are just a few of the Disney Channel stars who ended in disaster.
