Cougars United

Cougars United helps GHHS to continue to be the most inclusive school in the desert.

Kayla Powell, Ashley Heim, and Courtney Moran

You may have had some students come to your classroom to talk about Cougars United. On Wednesday January 21st, Cougars met for the first time this year for this event.

Cougars United is a way to raise bullying awareness, or as Senora Celle puts it “Help see our similarities more than our differences,” and “People judge us before they know ourselves.” Cougars United is a way for us to come together and get to know each other and raise the awareness of bullying. Also to make new friends.

So how do you get in Cougars United? You must be nominated by your teacher, or if you really want to, you can talk to Senora Celle in room A222. You can even ask your teacher to nominate you. You may even be selected randomly.

Adults and teachers are in Cougars United , so you will be doing team building activities, watch videos on bullying, and have group conversations. Senora Celle tells about an activity that will take place called ‘step in the circle’ this will give students an opportunity to get to know one another and tell their bullying stories.

Cougars United will be meeting once a month for the rest of the school year, so if you missed this meeting, you can try to go to the next one on February 18th. Last year Senora Celle and Francis De La Paz, a representative from the district, worked together and put this event together. Along with members from “Friday Night Live” the drug and alcohol abuse awareness club.  (SF)  If you have a story to tell, or needs someone to talk to, Cougars United is a place where you don’t get judged.
