Teacher of the week goes to two of our staff this week One is Ms. Corbett, and we asked her how she felt about being nominated for teacher of the week; she said she was surprised. Ms. Corbett attended college in Ohio and earned her master’s degree in California. She has been teaching for thirty-three years. She taught at a school in Ohio for two years and then two years in the Philippines at the Department of Defense School. After that she came to the Apple Valley USD. Ms. Corbett has taught elementary students to high school students. She says she enjoys her job and wouldn’t think of choosing a different career if she wanted to. When she is not in the classroom, she’s doing community service with a club called “Party with a Purpose” and she also enjoys going on hikes. Ms. Corbett has two children that are grown adults, one who lives in San Francisco and the other lives in Washington state. Her message to the students of Granite Hills is to “Find your passion and find a way to make money off of it.”
Mrs. Staggs was nominated to be the teacher of the week, and she expresses she felt flattered and humbled for the nomination. She has been teaching for about 35 years, at the schools: Atkins High School, Apple Valley High School, and Granite Hills High School. She teaches Intro. lit./ comp, honors intro. lit./ comp. and Advanced Placement English Language. She went to Arkansas Tech University for her undergraduate and graduate work at Chapman. If she could have been anything else she would have been an archeologist of some sort. This year she doesn’t take part in any after school activities, because she is recovering from past years. Her message to the students is “He is not a great philosopher, but I know good advice when I see or hear it- so in the word of Will Rogers ‘Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.’”
